Backstory and origins
Cassira Solarov was born on the Fourth outlying colony of the Pasiphae Legion on the 04 station orbiting Alaria. The Pasiphae Space Pirate Legion was once a grand empire, established more than 1000 years ago in the pursuit of wealth, power, and a way to anchor their existence and culture for future generations all across the galaxy. However, the legion is one of the more respected pirate legions as they hold respect, honor, and tradition very high in their eyes, allowing them to form strong trade alliances with several nations on Alaria, being able to import offworld and extremely rare materials and artifacts at the proper price while providing a mercenary-like army at an allies disposal. The Legion revolved heavily around the zen-like art of Lightcalling (psychomanipulation of light using the powers of a Soul Prism.)
When a Pasiphae child is born, they are bestowed with a Soul Prism, carefully selected by the colony elders to best match their psychological build and the children are taught to take care of these prisms as if they were their own children. The prism then grows, becomes responsive to their thoughts and actions. At the age of 13, the caretakers of the prisms (the children) take part in a ceremony/right of passage in which they are unified with their prism. However, the caretaker must chose to sacrifice apart of themselves in order to accept the prism as part of their soul (literally and symbolically). Usually, Pasiphaeans sacrifice a finger (using a rather painless procedure in which an elder uses an aura of light to phase the digit out of existence). Because of this, it is quite common to see a Legionnaire with a missing finger. Cassira chose to sacrifice her right (dominant) eye as she saw that greater sacrifice would make her stronger as an individual in the long run. She is one of 3 Pasiphaeans to ever consider this, the other two becoming galactic admirals in the Pasiphaean Legion long ago.
After this Ceremony, the caretaker of a Soul Prism can now partake in the practice of Lightcalling, in which they can bend light to execute very complex maneuvers and attacks. These can include focusing beams to create lasers, creating walls of light to serve as defense measures, surfing on lightwaves by use of their Shieldlances, or nullifying light entirely, creating shrouds of darkness in which to hide and ambush. Cassira chose to embed her prism into her Shieldlance to increase the power output and connection to the weapon.
1000 years after the inception of Colony 04 (which remains in low-Alarian-orbit), the Legion has become near extinct as the empire has since fallen/fractured into smaller legions. The station of Pasiphae 04 is now on the brink of shut down and remains in an incredible state of disrepair, life-support systems being barely operational as the station teeters on disintegration in orbit. While most of the fortunate have been able to depart, some are stranded, keeping the station at the bare minimum of operation. Cassira chose to remain on the station to assist in its operational duties as well as scavenge for a potential solution for the ringworld.
The station itself is a giant sphere in which all the buildings and structures are located in the inner surface of the sphere (serving as protection from space debris and radiation). The skyscapers (now in disrepair) all reach toward the center of the sphere and artificial gravity is maintained using a "push reactor". This drive (rather than pulling objects toward it), forces everything away from it, therefore allowing consistent gravity for the inhabitants inside the sphere while pushing away debris just outside the colony. The drive has considerably weakened and is in danger of a catastrophic failure.
Cassira first met Syron at the age of 12 (Syron being age 11 respectively) through the friendly trade relation the colony had with Kaius Grey, who at the time was one of the most prestigious scientists of Alaria. He often ordered materials through the fleet to advance his Metaneural discoveries. During the period of peace, Syron and Cassira grew very close, both taking care of Cassira’s Soul Prism. Just after Kaius stood trial for high treason/endangerment of Alaria for the discovery of the Hylex element and its potential danger of being weaponized, Cassira gifted Syron with a gold pendant on his 14th birthday, showing the importance of their relationship....
24 hours later, Syron disappeared. Cassira was fully aware of Kaius' exile to the Lunar Outbounds Facility, but was unable to contact him or Kaius despite her best efforts. She searched endlessly for him, but was continually blocked by an unseen source (presumably a 3rd party) upon any attempt to gather data on his whereabouts, the progress of the Hylex project or any further information surrounding the Grey family.
She thus joined a very elite taskforce (dubbed the Pasiphae Special Operations Division) with hopes of being able to find clues to Syron's fate via top secret missions and confidential data access, as well as further assist the Pasiphae colony.
The division thrived until the other 7 members of the Infiltration division were reported Missing-in-action after a mission to recover a distress beacon deep inside the moon. Cassira was unable to partake in the mission due to her inexperience and newness to the taskforce. The cause of the team's demise was unknown, but Pasiphae, as well as several bases around Alaria found that a gravitic anomaly occurred 100 km under the moon’s surface directly under the Lunar Outbounds Facility. However, further missions were hindered due to collapsed passageways surrounding and inside the installation. All further mission efforts were abandoned.
Cassira re-established herself as the new sole member of the division, using her special training to become a freelancer. She continued her search for Syron.
However… after an emergency assault was lead on the Outbound Facility by the Alarian Military, rumors arose that a synthetic gem had been created (under the pseudo name ‘Calamity Diamond’) that could be used as a potential powersource to bring Pasiphae 04 back to full operational status. Cassira began investigating the locations where she presumed, according to her acquired information, the diamond fragments were protected.
4 years later, during an infiltration mission to an isolated stonghold in the Great Sea to recover a fragment of this gem, she ran into someone else trying to steal the diamond first. Unable to recognize the thief, she pursued and attacked him, unsure if he was hostile due to his crystalline appearance…
Cassira is a Pasiphaean, and thus capable of Photokinesis (lightcalling). She chooses to do most of this in conjunction with a Ordinance-issue ShieldLance. These Pasiphaean shields double as a defensive and offensive weapon, capable of using the light from its user to power the shield, deploy walls of light to reflect attacks, channel photon power into the lance blade, or throw the shield similar to a boomerang, utilizing its internal cooling turbine as a propulsion method to glide around and return to the user. The shield also doubles as a light-powered hoverboard, in which the user uses Quantum Trapping to lock to the board, and propel themselves through the air. The shields are not designed to surpass 600 miles per hour, and attempting to go faster than this can cause a catastrophic failure in the device that can seriously injure or kill the user.
As with all Pasiphaean weaponry, the device is not self powered, but powered by the user’s photokinesis. Therefore, only Pasiphae Legionaires can operate the ShieldLance.
Cassira is a very passionate individual and is very strongly motivated by her emotions. However, being military personnel, she is very level-headed in combat, making logical calculations and calls with very little hesitation. While she strongly cares for Syron, she (and he alike) understand that letting such actions interfere with a fighting scenario is not allowed. Due to this, the interactions between Cassira and Syron are often more of friendly comradely rather than romance. While Syron proves to be more of the ‘spontaneous risk-taker’ and Faulkner serves to be more of a smart-alec (Tony Stark personality), Cassira proves to be the voice of deep calculation, analysis, and wariness. While she does enjoy a good fight, she would rather pick ones she will win, and she often berates Syron for his lack of caution.
Cassira, on occasion, is jeopardized by underlying emotional build-up due to the events surrounding the Hylex Project and Syron’s 5 year disappearance. This is most often seen in confrontations between Kaius Grey and Mathis Crowe, who play at it as a way to compromise her combat skill and capitalize on her mistakes. This is not to say that Cassira is malleable or easily manipulated, but more a glimpse at the level of manipulation that both Mathis and Kaius posses.
While Cassira is mostly a composed, serious woman, she is quite fond of her leisure time as well, tagging alongside Syron and Faulkner in non-combat situations. She enjoys sushi, sake-bombs, and the rare occasion there’s a formal dance. While she isn’t as fast as Syron, she doesn’t mind taking a few stabs at his delivery records for Datastorm any chance she gets.
