Music Used: [link] Still with me (Seven Lions remix) - Tritonal
Well, it looks like it was about time for me to try the 'draw it again meme' here on dA. I did have alot of people saying I have improved but I didn't really find myself convinced of it. Therefore I decided to do it and really feel that I've come along way. In the spirit of things, I decided to take an image from approximately 2 years ago (not even as it was uploaded Oct 24, 2010) and give it the ol' DS treatment.
Original poopy image:
This is what we have and quite honestly I'm scared over how different they are. @_@.
This proves alot of things to me, but I'll write that in the meme itself. This was loads of fun and shows me that I'm very far along in comparison to 2010. Heh, just a few short years.
Thanks to everyone who attended the LS, It means alot with your support. I probably wouldn't be anywhere close to this level if it wasn't for you guys.
"Doubt.... it is the only barrier that stands between man and triumph. It is a wall that must be torn down solely by determination and bravery. Once this wall falls, any challenge... any obstacle can be overcome.... let us all pray we can overcome this doubt and get the chance to dream before we are forced to awaken." ~Kaius Grey
I'm gonna get the next pic planned asap.
ps: thanks to *Togekisser for some redline help. Muzzles are srs bsns _____________
edit: A DAILY DEVIATION? Seriously? on a 'draw it again' pic? holy crap I don't know what to say at all. Thank you guys so much <3
Alright, this is my first critique in a while, so if I miss a few points, go easy on me!
First off, this is an astounding piece, Dan! While I have only seen a few of your pieces, it is evident that your ability has vastly improved, and the best contrast between your improvements has to be between this picture, and the original pic of Storm. In the old picture, Storm is definately a unique character, but follows a certain style. In this updated version of your OC, however, none of that style is evident, and Storm now looks like a unique character altogether, maybe in turn a reflection of how you created your own unique style of drawing.
Moving on, the art itself has an professional edge to it. From the sharp lines and sense of depth, to the small details (tears on his clothes, and the windmills in the back are some examples) and contrasting colors (a good example is the cool colors on Storm, and the warm sunset behind him), it's obvious that an experienced artist did this work. I'd have to say, it's a testament to the techniques you have learned over time. ^^
My only complaints with this picture is that there are a few odd lines and textures, but again, those are just my opinion, so probably are miniscule problems.
Overall, this has to be one of the best Anthro pieces I have seen in a while, and when I realized it was a revision of one of your old OCs, it made this pic that much more amazing to me. I hope this critique helps you out, and good luck with future works, Dan!
It's been taking me forever to get to writing a critique about this picture, and being my first ever for one of your pieces, I've been looking forward to it.
Dan, I have no idea what to say. This picture is just stunning. When I first saw you working on it in your LiveStream, I had no idea how beautiful the final picture would be.
The thing that really stands out is the background. The clouded effect of the sky is great, along with the electric windmills . It adds a lot of cool depth to the entire picture. The transition from the peaceful sunset to the darkened storm really stands out.
Next up-Syron. It's hard to believe that you were able to transform a Sonic fan character like him into such an amazing and original anthro of your own. The crystallized spines, the jagged hairs, and his chest crystal really "pop" through his design. And the sphere on his shoe and belt have an interesting effect, with the lighting off the sunset in the background.
I could probably go on forever on how brilliant this picture is. All of the significant details really make the picture, from Syron's torn clothes, to the soft shading of his glove closest to the camera. This is one heck of an improvement from your first picture, that's for sure.
This has to be one of your best pictures yet, Dan. Keep up the phenomenal work!
The colors, lighting, pose, and overall composition of this are really fantastic. And after taking a peek at the first version, I am blown away at your improvement! Keep up the excellent work, and congratulations on a much deserved DD.
