Definitely one of the most emotional things for me to draw. Decided to add this 5th and final frame to tie together the entire Ultimate Lifeform Tribute for Shadow the hedgehog in SA2. The ending of this game can be interpreted in a number of ways, but my interpretation was Shadow dying.
Think of his role as a character if you look at the game alone. He plays a brother/father figure to Maria, this child that he takes care of, just to see her ripped from his hands. He must then try to remember why things happened the way they did, and as a result, thinks that revenge for him losing the one thing he loves above all else is necessary.
But he begins to remember his real reason. He was made as a second chance for humanity, to give them what he could no longer give Maria. Happiness. He sacrificed everything for the one thing in his heart that he knew mattered to him...
and now he's with Maria once again...
Without a doubt one of the best character roles in any game. Yes, I know Sonic Adventure 2 is dated, but the idea is what matters here. Sega created a character to be used to his fullest in one story. At the start being the most edgy villain with the worst intentions of all, to becoming the sole hero of the human race.
"A new day brings new adventure. But for now....
rest easy heroes."
