Hi guys! So ~Airlight showed up at Sonic Boom and offered to sketch Syron for me. I loved it so much I gave it the full-picture treatment and colored it. However I decided to digitally paint/softcell this picture instead of my usual color style. It was a bit trickier than expected and was really a good practice picture. Plus, it lends itself to the style he sketched it in.
Airlight was always a huge inspiration for me because of his chaotic coloring and posing style and really influenced my work early on. Getting to work on a picture he did for me is a real treat to say the very least. He really did Sy justice. This week I'm doing more contest prizes, but this was a little treat for me and also a bit of practice to sharpen up some more skills. I really love digital painting impressionistic backgrounds now. I think the BG on this was a 10 minute speedpaint. Strangely enough it worked very well.
Thanks ~Airlight, I will patiently wait for you to post something again (seeing as you poof'd a while ago).
This is great! I know how excited you were about getting this, and your two styles really merge well together! Hee, he so shiny, and a lovely background to boot! Wonderful work

Ah, it's great to see how this turned out. Awesome job, Dan! I think your coloring style meshes quite well with ~Airlight's lines. =] Not sure if he's ready to crack open his old account just yet, but he wanted me to relay the following:
"Wow, after seeing what you did with the picture, I wish I didn't draw such a generic, stagnant pose for Syron- you did a really great job with the lines and coloring! It'd be fun to collaborate again in the future."
Keep up the great work! We look forward to seeing more. =] *bows*
