Every once in a while I like to post a journal that provokes a few questions that I have (from my opinions) about the online artist community.  While it doesn't always hold true in every situation, there's alot of common ground.  Please note this is morely my own personal opinion, so don't get offended or anything if it doesn't align with yours.

Primarily, this has 'some' to do with deviantart, but mostly deals with what I've personally observed on tumblr and other websites.  I know, I know, what the heck does the title of this journal have to do with anything?  Well it has to do with how some artists look to some other artists as celebrities and demigods.  On tumblr I see alot of the 'OMFG SEMPAI NOTICED ME OMFG <3333' stuff coming from a particular group of people which i won't mention for the sake of being considerate, as well as a large number of others.  I've always thought it strange that artists were seen in such a manner.  Admiring someone to me is completely fine, but worshiping them or becoming infatuated with them is very very odd, and irritating to me to a certain extent.  And I see this as irritating for two reasons: Artists aren't celebrities or demigods.  Sure, they draw cool stuff, but that doesn't mean that you should slave every day to try to get them to so much as look in your direction.  Artists should be easily approachable and not 'OMFG HE LOOKED AT ME OR SAID MY NAME *fawns over*".  To me, its silly to go to that level of psychological praise for anyone in general.  The second reason is that I have been in situations where artists 'have' let the celebrity-level praise go to their head, and as a result, we see alot of the ego issues that stem out of Deviantart and Tumblr.  I've had my share of people that get googoo-eyed over some of my stuff but I try to bring them back down to earth and explain 'hey, I'm just a dude who draws for fun, you don't need to get so fangirly, goof'.  I try to be as approachable as possible and that's largely why I try and reply and answer as many questions as possible.  I have seen a number of artists who are rather choosy on who they respond do (if you know what I imply with that), and personally don't like that at all.  I do understand alot of artists are very busy, but this isn't about that group of people anyway :P.

I guess i should just say that obsessive admiration is a bad thing in alot of aspects.  Just because you can draw well does not mean that you are e-celebrity, and it surely does not give people a valid reason to act like one.  Just because people are willing to 'throw money at you' for your stuff doesn't mean you should treat them like the Bank-of-Deviantart personal piggybank.  I dunno, I guess i just get irked by a few things from time to time and sometimes sharing my opinion of it in the open helps me understand possible different viewpoints of it all.

So the 'Sempai noticed me' stuff?  Yeah, I think it's rather dumb.  I feel that if people are considerate, polite, and aren't grasping for attention from someone, any artist should be easily approachable and be seen as what we really are, artists.

Anyway, what are your thoughts on this?

Well I guess I share your opinion. I don't like it if people act a bit immature if we talk about attention.

Of course I'm happy if I can motivate people for improving theirselves and I'm also open for critique but it's not a reason to let good artists look like a god or something. People like you and me a normal persons, which love it to draw, keep practising and have fun.

This doesn't change the fact, that I still enjoy yours or other peoples art and respect the effort, the practise and the stil, people put in their works. It doesn't matter if we talk about digital or traditional art. It has all something special we can looking for.

About the comission thing. Is it really that bad to earn money like that? If you draw your artwork and even send it to the person, which requested it? I guess if he hold the original right in his hands, it is worth the money. I do comissions soon because it has personal reasons and because I wanna share my art also on this way. To see people with a smile is also a reason.

Hopefully I didn't misspell something again and I'm open for new artworks from you.
